Updated: Jan 14

In business and in our personal lives how do we find the balance? Sometimes we just have to do things one task at a time!

Do you find yourself multitasking on a daily basis? Trying to complete 2-3 tasks at once?

As a business owner, I have learned that this method only works short term before your work begins to suffer!

Today we are focusing on slowing things down and working on one thing at a time, for an allocated amount of time! It's time to free our minds and actually be more productive!

Make Life Easier 2021

If you’re like me you're probably juggling a few businesses, home, and marriage which can get overwhelming very quickly, which is why strategic planning is a must!

So today we are talking about "Focused Work"

Focused Work

Spending 45mins - 1 hour on one task

"Focused Work" helps in being more productive!

The goal is trying to be less distracted, more efficient and make fewer mistakes!

Literally this week I found myself all over the place, making simple mistakes. All because I did not give myself a time limit per task and take appropriate breaks.

Mistakes happen when your mind is scattered on too many tasks.

Allow yourself to get into a flow!

Focusing on one task at a time for a specific amount of time helps you to build up to being able to focus on and accomplish tasks with ease. It even helps with the flow of ideas, and getting unstuck! Here's to creating an atmosphere of innovation!

So here's what we need to do to make sure we are using this to our advantage.

  • Start setting work hours! -It can help boost productivity and allow you to get into your workflow!

We are not becoming full-time Biz owners to work longer hours than a regular job! Set yourself up for greatness!

Start small!

  1. Set a timer to work for 1hr on 1 task at a time without distractions.

  2. Be sure to schedule your breaks!

  3. Set a finish time to make sure you are keeping your personal downtime in mind.

Here is what my " Focused Work" Schedule looks like;

Friday ( Schedule)

  • Early morning walk- Gather thoughts and prepare to focus

  • 9:00 - 10:00 1-hour of Social Media Posting for my clients and personal branded accounts

  • 10:00 -10:30 30 min Breakfast / Coffee break

  • 11:30 -12:30 1-hour Content Creating for Clients / Personal Businesses

  • 12:30 - 1:30 1-hour Networking on Socials

  • 1:30 - 2:30 1-hour Lunch Break

  • 2:30 - 3:30 45 min Client Call Planning & Strategizing or Creating Contracts for a new client.

  • 3:30 - 4:30 30 mins Planning Next Day

  • 4:30 Knock off

This converts into a little over 5hrs of Focused work, 1hr 30mins of scheduled breaks, and knock-off time at 4:30. Anything that was not accomplished can be scheduled for the next day!

Everyone's schedule will look different depending on what you do! The takeaway is to focus on one project at a time and then move into proactive breaks to recharge and have the same level of energy for every task.

Finally, Focused Work Provides you with a Work / Home Balance

Focused Work actually saves you time!

The amount of time I wasted bouncing between 2 & 3 tasks instead of working on one for a set amount of time was insane! Now I can get more tasks done in my day!

It is hard at first trying to switch gears, this is why having an alarm of some sort comes in really handy! Once you start and stay consistent it becomes a habit, you will seamlessly know when to stop and start new tasks.

So map out your start time and ending time and stick with it!

The hardest part about being a business owner is allowing time to bleed over into our family time/downtime. We have to be proactive in making sure we find the balance. Setting a knock-off time and sticking to it is the only way to enjoy this journey!

Thanks for reading!

I will be on this journey with you as I strive to continue to put things into place to make my journey as stress-free and balanced as it can be!
